Let’s Get Techy

Pickering Public Library

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with the Pickering Public Library, which features engaging visits to Tech Play and interactive “Let’s Talk Science” Zoom sessions with distinguished scientists.

Tech Buddies

Tech Buddies is a highlight of our educational program, where older students mentor younger ones in digital skills and coding (Scratch, Spike, Python), fostering leadership, collaboration, and peer learning.

Platforms

Students in all subjects utilize platforms such as Google Classroom for organization and Canva for creative presentations. Additionally, they employ various interactive tools that enhance learning through technology.

Digital Literacy

Digital literacy plays a crucial role in our curriculum. It equips students with the skills to effectively use and understand digital technologies in a variety of educational contexts. It’s about more than just using computers; it encompasses critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, all within the digital realm.

How do we integrate Digital Literacy in the curriculum?

Cross-Curriculum Integration: Teachers can integrate digital literacy into various subjects, such as reading, writing, math, and social studies.

Project-Based Learning: Students can engage in projects that require them to use digital tools to research, create, and present information.

Digital Citizenship Education: Teachers can teach students about responsible online behavior, including digital safety, ethical use of technology, and online privacy.

BES Code of Online Conduct

Students should engage in all digital communications with others in a respectful manner, following the school’s code of conduct.

Students should not engage in cyberbullying, which includes sending messages designed to insult or injure someone’s reputation.

Students should accurately cite information from the internet and not plagiarize. They should also abide by copyright laws and not download or share copyrighted materials without permission.

Students should use computing technology as prescribed or approved by their teachers, avoiding visiting unacceptable sites or engaging in illegal activity.

Students should keep their passwords secret and not misrepresent their identity online.

Students should be aware of online risks and threats and understand how to stay safe while online.

Students Chromebooks

Each student at our school is assigned a Chromebook with a personal and protected password. These devices are used for various educational purposes, including research, writing, note-taking, communication with teachers, and accessing online resources. They also help students develop typing skills needed for digital learning.

Hands-On Robotics

Our collaboration with Intellibots, a robotics education company, enables us to offer our students interactive, hands-on robotics lessons while they engage in coding missions with the Spike Prime Robot. The students will take part in the Regional First Lego League Tournaments to qualify for the annual FLL Championship at Ontario Tech University.

responsibility and the wings of independence.“
