(Grades 7 & 8): Empowering Youth Through Faith and Knowledge
At Brock Elementary School, our Intermediate Program for Grades 7 and 8 is a transformative journey that prepares students for high school with a strong academic foundation, rooted in Islamic teachings and values. These years are essential for nurturing critical thinking, independent learning, strong moral character, and spiritual identity.
We integrate the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Intermediate Curriculum with Islamic Studies to ensure that students excel both academically and spiritually.

Core Academic Subjects – Ontario Curriculum

Reading & Literature

Students engage in in-depth exploration of novels, biographies, poetry, and informational texts, analyzing themes, author’s purpose, symbolism, and character development to enhance critical thinking.

Speaking & Listening

Public speaking, structured debates, panel discussions, and presentation skills are regularly practiced to enhance communication, confidence, and critical thinking abilities.

Writing

Students develop mastery in essay writing, reports, persuasive texts, narrative storytelling, and literary analysis, enhancing their writing proficiency and critical thinking abilities.

Media Literacy

Students deconstruct media messages and analyze their impact through an Islamic lens, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of media’s influence on values.

Mathematics

Aligned with the 2020 Revised Ontario Mathematics Curriculum:

Algebra & Linear Relations

Students investigate variables, expressions, equations, graphing, and functions, establishing a solid foundation in algebra and enhancing their problem-solving abilities in mathematics.

Number Sense & Operations

Students study rational numbers, integers, percentages, and proportional reasoning to strengthen their mathematical skills and ability to solve real-world problems.

Measurement & Geometry

Students learn surface area, volume, transformations, and the Pythagorean theorem to develop spatial reasoning and solve geometric problems effectively.

Data Management & Probability

Students focus on organizing and analyzing data, conducting probability simulations, and making predictions to enhance their statistical and analytical thinking skills.

Coding

Students are introduced to both block-based and text-based coding, applying these skills in problem-solving scenarios to develop computational thinking and programming proficiency.

Financial Literacy

Students explore real-life applications of budgeting, saving, and responsible financial decision-making, equipping them with essential skills for personal financial management.

Science & Technology

Hands-on , inquiry-based learning drives science instruction:

Grade 7 Topics

Students explore interactions in the environment, pure substances and mixtures, heat in the environment, and structures and mechanisms to understand natural processes and engineering principles.

Grade 8 Topics

Students study cells and systems, fluids, light and optical systems, and systems in action, with lessons connected to real-world problems and Islamic stewardship of the Earth.

History & Geography

Grade 7 History

Students explore New France and British North America (1713–1800), examining the historical events and their profound impact on Indigenous communities during this period.

Grade 8 History

Students study Confederation, the development of modern Canada, and immigration trends, understanding their roles in shaping the nation’s history and diverse society.

Geography

Students explore population dynamics, sustainability, and global development, emphasizing justice, equity, and environmental responsibility through an Islamic perspective on stewardship and ethical practices.

French (Core French)

Students expand vocabulary, grammar, conversation skills, and cultural understanding, engaging in written compositions and oral presentations in French. Lessons promote cultural sensitivity while upholding Islamic values.

The Arts

Visual Arts

Students explore drawing, painting, digital art, and Islamic geometric design, combining creativity, cultural appreciation, and advanced artistic techniques for a well-rounded artistic experience.

Drama

Students engage in storytelling, role-play, and values-based performances, enhancing creativity, communication, and the understanding of important moral principles.

Health & Physical Education

Students engage in physical activity, team sports, and fitness challenges, with health units on wellness, body image, and safety, taught from an Islamic perspective.

Integrated Islamic Studies Program

Our Islamic Studies program supports the spiritual and moral growth of every student:

Qur'an Studies:

Students memorize selected Surahs with Tajweed (including Juz’ Amma and beyond), study Tafseer (meaning and context), and understand the practical application of verses in daily life.

Islamic Beliefs (Aqeedah):

Students delve deeper into the six articles of faith, exploring Allah’s names and attributes, and developing an understanding of Belief in Qadar (Divine Decree) and Akhirah (Afterlife).

Fiqh (Islamic Law):

Students study purification, prayer, fasting, and daily etiquette, applying Islamic rulings relevant to adolescence to guide their behavior and actions in daily life.

Seerah & Islamic History:

Students study the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the Khulafa ar-Rashidun, learning valuable lessons from early Muslims and significant events in Islamic history.

Akhlaq & Adab (Islamic Manners):

Students learn Islamic etiquette in speech, behavior, online activity, and peer interactions, with an emphasis on compassion, honesty, humility, and resilience in all aspects of life.

Quranic Language:

Instruction focuses on reading, speaking, and listening skills, helping students understand and interpret the language of the Holy Quran with clarity and comprehension.

Character Development & Leadership

Our Junior High students are empowered to become confident, respectful, and responsible young Muslims through various initiatives, including Student Council and peer mentorship opportunities that promote leadership and collaboration. They actively participate in community service projects focused on charity and good citizenship, helping them develop a sense of social responsibility. Additionally, regular Halaqahs with the PIC Imam and Alimah reinforce Islamic values and morals, nurturing their spiritual growth and character development.

Technology & Innovation

Students engage with 21st-century tools in meaningful ways by utilizing a variety of programs tailored to the specific needs of each subject, allowing for a more dynamic and interactive learning experience. They undertake research and presentation projects that build critical thinking and communication skills, while coding and design challenges encourage creativity, problem-solving, and technological fluency.
